Legalization of cannabis in Ukraine

At this stage of socio-cultural formation, Ukraine takes a confident pro-European vector of state development. At the same time, the issue of legal regulation of the processes of use and cultivation of cannabis arises.

Cannabis legalization: a point blank

To date, more than sixty countries have lifted bans on medical cannabis. Such advanced states as Great Britain, Germany, Israel and the USA are actively integrating hemp-based herbal preparations into the domestic pharmaceutical space.

Caring activists and deputies of the Verkhovna Rada hope that in the new year Ukraine will join the ranks of progressive countries.

The head of the Golos party, Kira Rudik, wrote on her Facebook page that the Ukrainian public is becoming a hostage of stereotypical views.

“It is impossible to continue to indulge the abstract fears of society about the dangers of weed when it comes to human life and health,” the deputy writes.

The politician focuses on the fact that modern medicine can offer seriously ill patients much more powerful and dangerous drugs like codeine or morphine. At the same time, organic preparations based on cannabis products are still banned for Ukrainians.

According to the leader of the Golos party, the legalization of cannabis can significantly facilitate the lives of millions of Ukrainians. This group includes persons with epilepsy and diabetes mellitus, as well as citizens suffering from oncological diseases and those who have been diagnosed with disorders of the nervous system of varying severity.

What will the United Nations say

At the beginning of December last year, the world community learned that cannabis is no longer considered a highly dangerous drug. The decision to exclude cannabis and hashish from this list was made by UN members during a vote. Those countries that voted "For" the new bill referred to the recommendations of the World Health Organization.

In total, out of 53 UN member states, 27 supported the format of the innovation, and 25 voted against. Among the opponents were such states as Pakistan, Egypt, Russia and China. Ukraine, by the way, abstained from voting.

According to experts, the exclusion of cannabis from the list of highly dangerous drugs gives the green light to research activities. This practice will allow a deeper study of the properties of cannabinoids and will give millions of patients a chance to receive quality medical care without the use of synthetic drugs.

Opinion of the Orthodox Church

During the meeting with the head of state, the Primate of the Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Epiphanius, expressed his thoughts on the process of legalizing cannabis in Ukraine.

The Metropolitan said that the Orthodox Church of Ukraine stands up for the use of cannabis products for the benefit of human health, if this does not lead to the development of drug addiction in the state.

Organic therapy: the first steps of Ukraine

For several years now, Ukrainian activists have been insisting on the need to mitigate measures that control the process of cannabis consumption in the domestic space. This is how concerned citizens periodically organize rallies or collect signatures under the relevant petitions.

In October 2020, as part of the election of heads of regional councils, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy conducted a poll among voters through additional ballots. One of the points was the question of the legalization of cannabis in Ukraine.

Despite the fact that the majority of citizens supported the practice of using cannabis for medical purposes, MPs have been dealing with this issue for several months. Deputies of the Servant of the People party shared that three bills are currently being developed at once, which relate to the regulation of the consumption of cannabis.

The hopes and aspirations of Ukrainian activists: the ice is broken

The number of supporters of cannabis legalization is growing every year. More and more Ukrainians are in favor of using medical cannabis for therapeutic purposes. We hope that the assurances of the members of the ruling party will soon become a reality and Ukraine will open its borders for innovative medical technologies.

Last year, the capital hosted the Ukrainian Canna Fair, which brought together several dozen entrepreneurs from all over the country. The participants of the event presented a wide range of unique organic products made from hemp to the attention of the consumer.

The Canna Fair broke through the ceiling of civic consciousness and showed Ukrainians that the practice of cannabis growing, as such, does not harm society and does not undermine ethical and moral foundations.

Activists hope that such events will take place in the vastness of the country more and more often, instilling in Ukrainians a culture of competent and safe cannabis growing.
