Where is cannabis legalized

While activists advocate the legalization of cannabis, the leaders of the world states are reviewing the system of legislative regulation of cannabis growing. Thus, the process of cultivation and use of cannabis in some countries is completely allowed, and in some - with certain restrictions, becoming the subject of lively discussions.

Uruguay - pioneers of global legalization

Uruguay was the first state to decriminalize the cultivation, sale, transportation and consumption of cannabis. In December 2013, the local government implemented a new bill that would allow all citizens over the age of 18 to use marijuana.

Individuals who wish to purchase a portion of cannabis must register with a special government registry. Cannabis is sold by pharmacies that have received a license for this type of activity.

A Uruguayan citizen can purchase no more than 40 grams of organic product per month. You can also cultivate a plant at home - no more than six units of culture are allowed to grow on the garden bed.

According to the head of state, the new law made it possible to eliminate the very concept of the "black" market for cannabis, and also significantly reduced the turnover of hard drugs. So Uruguay opened the list of countries where cannabis is legalized. The president of the state hopes that other states will adopt the experience of the Uruguayans.

Countries where the sale of cannabis is legal: Canada is in business!

In 2001, the Canadian government began systematic work to legalize cannabis farming as a modern industry. Twenty years ago, authorities lifted the ban on the use of cannabis in medical practice. The use of pharmaceuticals based on cannabis products has become an important step in the development of organic therapy.

In 2018, Canada became a state where cannabis is legalized even outside the context of medicine. For over two years now, every citizen of the country over the age of 18 has been able to grow, store and sell cannabis in small quantities. So, the maximum allowed amount of cannabis that Canadians can carry with them is 30 grams of dried plant.

It is worth noting that Canada is a member of the G7 club, and it became the first state in this community to decriminalize the cultivation of cannabis for recreational purposes.

Other countries where cannabis is legalized

Today, a number of countries have strict legal regulations on cannabis trafficking. In some states, legalization is now in the process of transformation and is being supplemented. Here is a short list of countries where limited cannabis traffic is allowed:

  •  Netherlands;
  •  North Korea;
  •  Spain;
  •  Czech Republic;
  •  Austria;
  •  Georgia;
  •  Portugal;
  •  Australia;
  •  Selected states of America (Oregon, Colorado, Alaska, Washington)

In 2019, the Israeli government passed a new bill that allows the use and storage (no more than 10 grams) of cannabis. However, Israelis can enjoy the fragrant smoke of the plant only within the walls of the house - the use of cannabis products in public places and just on the street is strictly prohibited.

As for the use of cannabis for medical purposes, this practice is allowed in 25 states of America, as well as in such states as: Croatia, Poland, Greece, Finland and all the same Israel. According to the latest data, Germany also plans to join the list of countries where medical cannabis is legalized.

What to expect from cannabis legalization

According to preliminary conclusions of experts, the process of decriminalization of cannabis will yield positive results, both for the state economy and for private entrepreneurs. All those involved in the illegal cultivation and sale of cannabis will receive official licenses. Thus, the activities of shadow traders will now be organized within the framework of the current law, which will not only protect enterprising plant breeders, but also provide a portion of tax payments to the state treasury.

In addition, the quality of the products will also improve. This can be safely asserted based on the experience of Canadians. Here, in order to obtain a license, it is necessary to organize a modern cultivation space with the latest equipment and qualified staff.

We hope that the heads of states of the post-Soviet space will appreciate the prospects for the development of cannabis breeding and draw the right conclusions.
